Tips for law website domain purchase
You can buy any domain as you like subject to its availability. But, the business stands point I would recommend certain tips before you buy a domain
1. Your domain name should match with your business
Let me give you an example here, I have a domain called pathlegal.com which provide lawyers/law firms directory from worldwide and offers many other legal services worldwide.
I have another domain pathlegal.in which is focusing only in India, representing lawyers/law firms directory from India, offer online legal solutions and many other legal services in India. My another domain is pathlegal.net which is to do with law firm branding and legal software solutions.
All my domains are having word call ‘legal’, which would indicate that my business is something to do with ‘legal’. Like that, your domain should match with your business. If you are criminal expert lawyer and you want to only focus on criminal items then adding a word ‘criminal’ to your domain name will be value added to your business.
2. Your domain name should not be lengthy
I have seen the cases that people use lengthy name for their domains, I personally don’t recommend that because people cannot remember/use the same easily, also which doesn’t look professional. I would recommend that the maximum number characters to 15.
3. You should consider a domain name with match with your future business expansions
Let’s take a scenario here (this is just a case study only), just imagine that you have a popular domain called www.lawyers delhi99.com, which is a law firm based in Delhi. Now how they can explore the business in other cities using the same domain? It’s difficult for them to build a brand in other cities using the same domain as the domain contains the city called ‘Delhi’.
Let’s take another scenario, you have domain which contain word called ‘criminal’, which indirectly indicating the public that you are focused on criminal subjects. Now you may find difficulty to support another subject ‘civil’ using the same domain name.
This is very important if you are serious about your business. I want to give an example here, you might be knowing a company called AOL (previously known as ‘America Online’, a well known traditional internet oriented company, earlier was focusing on business in America). I think they couldn’t perform well in global market because of its name itself, later they changed the name to AOL, they don’t use ‘America Online’ anymore, but that’s too late…
4. Just grab the .com first, then go for other domains
